Zachary Katz-Stein was born in the small hippy town of Yellow Springs, Ohio. From there he attended Kenyon College, learned to juggle fire, oil paint, and do yoga. He now lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, happily writing young adult and young readers chapter books with his two cats and a girlfriend who almost never leaves the pool.

Looking back on the events of A Study In Cutlets I am amazed by the remarkable set of circumstances that led me to share quarters, for a time, with an even more remarkable sheetah. At the time, Sherry Bones - only humans called her Sherlock - was a promising consulting detective just starting to make a name for herself in the Milwaukee Zoo while I was simply happy to be adopted from the pound. In the decade of friendship that followed our first meeting, we would be hailed as the single most formidable crime-fighting duo in animal history, but that's another story. This is the tale of how I met Sherry Bones and of our first case together, The Barnyard Mystery.
