When I'm not writing, I'm in court usually as a criminal defense attorney. I've done it for 21 years and I've just about seen it all when it comes to people. I draw a great deal of inspiration for my characters from bits and pieces of people I've observed and the innumerable cases I've handled.
I'm married to Renee and we have 2 sons Max, 20 and Riley 16. The cover for Cold Lonely Courage is a wonderful painting from a celebrated British water-colorist, Michael Morgan. |
Cold Lonely Courage
Historical Thriller
Cold Lonely Courage starts with a bang. It's the time of the German blitzkrieg in France, in the early stages of World War II. A young soldier named Yves is mortally wounded and is sent to a field hospital. His sister Madeleine visits him just before he dies. She travels back home to her parents, and they continue to run their restaurant in German-controlled Vichy France. Madeleine and her parents want to join the Resistance movement as they are forced to serve Germans in their cafe. One day a German officer brutally rapes Madeleine as she walks in town. The young girl's desire for revenge reaches a crescendo. The action continues as Madeleine exacts her revenge and sails for England and into the service of Churchill's Special Operations executive, his sole directive, "Set Europe ablaze." Cold Lonely Courage is made original by its choice of perspective with a female protagonist such as we usually only see with male protagonists in this type of novel. The action is high with a lot of drama, realistic emotion, and a touch of a love story. Both men and women will be able to identify with the actions and emotions of the well-defined characters. |
