Nigel James
Nigel James is a lawyer turned thriller writer, dividing his time between his homes in London and Spain. An avid sports fan, his first book, Deep Secret, was set in the world of horseracing and involved a clash between the horse racing and the adult movie industries resulting in murder, blackmail and kidnapping. His latest book, The Marbella Project, is a fast paced thriller set on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Former Special Forces soldier Dan Green seeks revenge for the murder of his son by the Russian Mafia. He recruits a member of his old regiment and the two of them take on the largest organised crime gang on the coast. Initial reaction to the book has been such that this is likely to be the first in a series.

Deep Secret
Action thriller
Alec Hammond is the country’s leading jump jockey, popular amongst his peers and adored by the betting public. He has won the jockeys’ championship several times and every big race in the racing calendar...with one exception, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the blue ribbon of steeplechasing and the highlight of the Cheltenham Festival in March. After several near misses, Alec finally has a horse capable of filling the gap in his glittering CV. Nicola James ran away from home at the age of sixteen after systematic abuse by her stepfather. Homeless, penniless and lacking in self-esteem, she uses the only asset that she believes will lead her to a better life...her body. She drifts into glamour modelling and eventually into the world of adult movies, where, under the name Susie Stone, she becomes one of world’s biggest stars. Frank Morris is a crooked bookmaker who established his business by bribing jockeys to ensure that their mounts did not win. Secure in the knowledge that those horses would not win, Morris offered longer odds on them than his rivals so as to attract more money. Morris had stopped bribing jockeys some years previously but could not resist taking big risks so as to maximise his profits. His gambling failed, and to keep afloat he borrowed huge sums from the sort of people who do not resort to courts to get their money back. Desperate to pay back his debts, he threatens and bribes one of his former team of jockeys to ‘throw’ selected races. Pat Duggan has become a leading jockey since his early days working for Morris but terrified as to what Morris might do if he refuses, he reluctantly agrees. Nicola is persuaded by her agent to accompany him to a day of corporate entertainment at Sandown racecourse, posing as his PA. There, she meets Alec and although she initially rejects his advances, she eventually agrees to a date. Soon, she falls madly in love with Alec but is desperate to keep her background from him. Ashamed of her past, she gives up her ‘acting’ career and is happy for the first time in her life. Meanwhile, Morris realises that he cannot repay his debts on the basis of Duggan throwing the occasional race and hatches a plot to ensure that Alec’s mount, Deep Secret, does not win the Gold Cup. Murder, blackmail and kidnap ensue, leading to a dramatic climax on Gold Cup day. |
