Michael Humm
Michael Humm was born in 1956 and spent most of his childhood in Egypt, where he attended the German protestant high school (DEO). In 1972 he moved with his family back to Germany. After completing a degree in engineering and business administration he worked for a long time in the management of some companies, before he started writing. The author is married and lives with his wife, two children and a dalmatian close to Frankfurt.

Ancient Egypt, in the year 47 BC; Cleopatra comes to power in times that are marked by civil war, destruction and famine.
A 15 year old boy is being persecuted through the desert by a group of soldiers. He is able to escape time and again, but then he is captured. Mortal hatred confronts him and he succumbs to their cruelty and torture. He finds out that the soldiers want to take his head to the capital Alexandria as a trophy. Mustering all his remaining strength he is able to free himself, letting the Nile floods decide his fate.
The boy manages to get to the other shore, where he lies unconscious for days. When he finally wakes up, he cannot remember what happened before being captured. He does not know where he came from nor who he is. Only the name Nefren occurs to him.
Seriously injured he reaches Memphis, the town of the Gods, where he finds a hiding place. Nefren's strong will to live and an old beggar called Ahmose help him to survive.
In constant fear of being found he is searching for the truth....
