A southern California native transplanted to the Sierra Nevada Foothills, Maxwell has been writing since he learned how to touch-type before he was in high school. He attended college at University of California, Irvine and graduated the same year TWIN PEAKS came on the air. Afterwards, he went on to work at a think-tank with members of the Manhattan Project team. Don't get excited. He did computer and clerical work. He took classes in design and animation and went on to work as an animator at Netter Digital, on MAX STEEL and DAN DARE. Sometimes he plays guitar and or keyboards and or drones for The Roswell Incident, which you can hear at highway62.bandcamp.com.
He is the author of several novels, including the fantasy RAGNAROK SUMMER (out for the kindle now) and the nopocalypse science fiction novel BLUE HIGHWAY (print release on 10/16/13). In addition to these, he has written for Blizzard Entertainment, both in the STARCRAFT and DIABLO universes. He has written several short story collections, including TUG ON THE RIBBON and BLINK AND OTHERS and the upcoming DUSTBEARER. HIGHWAY 62 REVISITED is his latest collection of non-fiction and commentary, following THE COLLECTED FULL BLEED. Finally, he is the writer and creator of the western/horror comic series STRANGEWAYS, illustrated by Luis Guragña and Gervasio & Jok. He talks too much on twitter (@highway_62) and spends too much time on tumblr (highway62.tumblr.comand intrapanel.tumblr.com) where he chatters about movies and comics, respectively.
Ragnarok came and went. The gods won. The giants retreated to recover from their wounds. But even in victory, the gods are uneasy. Hammerless, Thor quit Asgard in disgust. A half-machine Tyr interprets the babblings of a sightless Odin and Loki is imprisoned, both jester and reminder of the gods' costly victory.
There is a rot at the center of the world, at the heart of the world-tree Yggdrassil itself. But only Thor will acknowledge it. Chasing the source of that corruption, astride his twin-engined motorcycle, Thor retuns to Asgard after his hundred year exile.
Part magic and part technology amok, RAGNAROK SUMMER here is a maniac journey through the transformed worlds of the norse gods: to the stomach of the Midgard serpent, to glittering spires of Asgard City, to the frozen wastes of Niflheim and ravening infernos of Muspellheim, and to Hel itself where Thor and Loki pursue the secret of a failed apocalypse.
Matt Maxwell is also the author of TUG ON THE RIBBON AND OTHER STORIES and THE COLLECTED FULL BLEED. This is his first novel.
Highway 62 Revisited
Commentary and criticism, memoir
Compiled from more than ten years of commentary and travelogues from conventions across the United States, HIGHWAY 62 REVISITED is a collection of author Matt Maxwell's writing on comics, horror and popular culture. Introduced by fellow traveller Ken Lowery (LIKE A VIRUS and THE VARIANTS), this volume pokes and prods at what makes horror horrible and why comics work (in spite of their parent industry often being a shambling mess).
Tug on the Ribbon and Others
