Award-winning author Matt Andrus is an enthusiast of the weird and unusual. As a child growing up in the 1970s, he was drawn to books and documentaries explaining The Bermuda Triangle, Loch Ness Monster, and Sasquatch. And though the answers to these classic mysteries are now surfacing, he feels that behind each one, there is still an adventure to be had.
UFO is Matt's debut novel, and it recently took first place in the Chanticleer International Book Awards contest under the Global Thriller category.
For a skeptic, the Pacific Northwest, home of the legendary Bigfoot, and birthplace to the modern era of UFO, can sometimes be a busy place…
Mount St. Helens is set to erupt again, and a man is found murdered on the volcano’s slopes with all clues pointing to Bigfoot as the culprit. Alarmed at the direction the case is taking, FBI Agent Dan Fisher brings in a skeptic to help separate the facts from the fiction.
Steve Hanson is an introvert who prefers the seclusion of his home to facing the outside world. But Agent Fisher’s request is too amazing to pass up, and would make a remarkable entry into Hanson’s blog, The Unexplained, Explained. It also helps his interest when he realizes that Hawaiian volcanologist Makani Batemen is part of the investigation.
But something is working against them, and Hanson and Makani find themselves threatened by whoever, or whatever, is behind the killing. Adding to the mystery, local entrepreneur Wayne Kesler, a billionaire with his own Search for Extra-terrestrial Life program, has taken an interest in them. While Agent Fisher leads the search to find a more mundane answer to the murder, Bigfoot attacks Hanson and Makani. Hanson’s beliefs are further challenged when he witnesses a UFO in the night sky.
With the volcano ready to explode and time running out, Hanson and Makani realize that they are in a fight for their lives. And before they can reveal the truth they will have to face off against the U.S. military’s most advanced weapon to stop a plot that could tear the nation apart, and change the balance of world power, forever.
Ancient Evil Meets Its Match
T´hugs—Deceivers. A murderous cult that prowled the highways of ancient India, conning and strangling millions to appease their blood-soaked goddess, Kali. When they were finally discovered by the British in the early 1800s, the East India Company formed the T´huggee Suppression Department, and t´huggee, the most villainous scourge in history, was wiped off the face of the earth.
Paranormal skeptic Steve Hanson is summoned to an Oregon dairy farm to investigate a cattle mutilation. However, Hanson makes a more gruesome discovery, and he and reporter Samantha Ramsell come to a startling revelation—thuggee is alive and well, and thugs have migrated to the United States to continue their murderous ways.
Hanson and Samantha find themselves on the run as thugs pursue them. Knowing that their story is too crazy for local authorities to believe, Hanson turns to his friend and FBI agent, Dan Fisher. Unfortunately, Fisher and his superiors also have doubts that thuggee survived. Hanson and Samantha realize that they need to find proof of the secretive cult’s existence before they too fall prey to the thug’s noose.
Their hunt takes them across the United States. The thugs, fearing that they will be exposed, unleash a plot that will cause nationwide riots to distract Hanson and overwhelm law enforcement agencies.
With the country in crisis and time running out, Hanson and Samantha learn that the thugs plan one last blood sacrifice to Kali before disappearing into history once more. And as they confront the thugs in their lair, Hanson will have to deduce their true endgame. For when it comes to dealing with the Deceivers, nothing is what it seems…
