Lisa Petty
I'm a three-cat crazy writer who also happens to have two dogs, which means I spend a lot of time talking to animals. They haven't started talking back. Yet. : )
Misfit Academy is my first published Young Adult novel. Bullies exist everywhere, even in small private schools. Their victims have different reactions. Some ignore the taunting and shoving, some cower and hide, and some fight back. When someone chooses to fight back, does that person become a hero or just another bully? When I'm not writing novels, I also like to blog, eat my husband's delicious cooking, embarrass my teen son, and spend way too much time on Facebook and Twitter. I'm currently working on my second YA novel, called The Lizard King Club. Check my web site for more information :http://lisarpetty.com/the-lizard-king-club/ |
Misfit Academy
Young Adult -- Coming of Age
Bullies exist everywhere, even in small private schools. Their victims have different reactions. Some ignore the taunting and shoving, some cower and hide, and some fight back. When someone chooses to fight back, does that person become a hero or just another bully? Scott Price feels like the biggest nerd at Concord Academy, a former office building that he refers to as Misfit Academy. Concord Academy is a small private school in South Florida, and a supposed safe haven for misfits from kindergarten to twelfth grade. All is not as it appears to the tuition-paying parents. The harsh punishments from the overly dramatic principal, along with the actions of her favorite student, a bully named Wolfgang, bring stress to the students and faculty at the school. During his sophomore year, Scott’s life seems to step into Bizarro land. While there are no vampires, werewolves, or other mystical creatures, there is plenty of excitement. Ashley, a new girl, constantly distracts him, and he can’t help but act like a complete idiot around her. There is a violent fight, and one of Scott’s friends is arrested for assault. One of Scott’s friends comes out of the closet. At home, his normally calm parents alternate between arguing and giving each other the silent treatment. Scott can barely keep up with all of the drama, and he fears the changes that may be coming. Life is not what it used to be. |
