It's A Kid's Life
Children's Fiction
A very funny book that children can immediately relate to! Nine year old Ben Collins starts a new school where he quickly becomes friends with a boy named Tommy, who is very rich but has no brothers or sisters and his parents are never around. Tommy’s situation starts to make Ben appreciate his own big family a lot more. He gets up to a lot of mischief in the book, the main plot of which is running a secret tuck shop at school. Various events unfold in the book including Ben falling for a girl at school named Lottie and the readers realisation that Ben’s dad is in fact actually his step dad and he has a very different relationship with his birth father who he sees every few weeks. The book reaches a climax when Ben’s dog Obi is hit by a car and Ben uses the money from his secret school tuck shop to pay for Obi’s operation. It is a real heart warming ending for the readers with a great moral undertone where Ben comes clean to his Mum about the tuck shop to save Obi. |
