K. H. Denham
I grew up reading Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and W. E. Johns. As an adult I got into Japanese anime and video games with story lines such as the Final Fantasy series (I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy VII.) TV series I enjoy include Babylon 5 and Firefly, so I'm influenced by English, American and Japanese storytelling.
I love aviation, I fly light aircraft and teach people to fly, so not surprisingly aircraft often appear in my novels at some point. The world I've created for Evosium is not futuristic but realistic; it's set in a colonized Outer Solar System, remote from Earth and Mars. It's populated by robust characters; real people who fight and argue, but also wind each other up and laugh together as well. I hope you have as much fun reading Evosium as I did writing it. |
Evosium
Science Fiction
We’ve all had colleagues that are difficult to get on with, but imagine that yours will kill you if he finds out what you really are. Welcome to Ryde’s world. And just when he thought his life had changed for the better: Ryde was living a miserable life in prison, serving a long sentence for a crime he committed as a homeless young evosium addict. But when he is offered a chance get out of jail early to work for the Culebra, who act as a rough police force on the crime-ridden moons of Jupiter, he grabs it. Ryde desperately wants this second chance at life to work out, but finds his new job very tough. There is no escaping the fact that working in the Culebra involves shooting people, albeit violent criminals, but the problem is that just holding a gun brings back a flood of bad memories of the crime he was imprisoned for, which left a teenage boy fighting for his life in hospital. To make matters worse Ryde’s new boss is an alcoholic, who pairs him up with a thug called Leon. Leon has a violent temper and a hatred of evosium users so deep that Ryde knows his life will be in danger if his new colleague discovers his past. |
