JJ Slate
JJ Slate has been writing in some capacity for most of her life. Born in Massachusetts, she has always been fascinated with true crime stories, especially missing persons and cold cases. A self-proclaimed "trial junkie" and "forensic science nerd," JJ currently lives with her husband in New England. When she isn't writing or researching her next book, she is usually blogging about current cases in the media.
JJ released two books in 2014: - "Missing Wives, Missing Lives": JJ's debut true crime book is a compilation of true cases about wives that have gone missing. Published on June 16, 2014 via RJ Parker Publishing, Inc., it quickly became an Amazon bestseller in several categories. - "Social Media Monsters: Internet Killers": Published on September 18, 2014, JJ Slate and RJ Parker co-authored this book together. It highlights cases of killers who use social media to locate, stalk, lure, or exploit their victims. It also provides an inside look on how law enforcement is using social media to catch criminals, as well as what you can do to protect yourself and others from online predators. JJ also wrote the final case file in RJ Parker's "Serial Killers Abridged," which published May 31, 2014, a summary of the Long Island Serial Killer case. |
Missing Wives, Missing Lives
True Crime
It is estimated that approximately 2,300 Americans are reported missing every day — an average of 840,000 people a year. These totals are six times the amount of the national averages reported just twenty years ago. Crime experts estimate that fewer than five percent of those reported missing are actual abductions or kidnappings by a stranger. JJ Slate has been fascinated by missing persons reports and cold cases for as long as she can remember. With the sheer volume of people reported missing each day, it’s impossible to follow each case in the media, but there are always incidents that seem to pluck at her heartstrings. When a wife mysteriously vanishes in the midst of filing for divorce or undergoing custody proceedings, it is only natural for investigators to look at the husband first. There have been countless cases like this in the media, and many of them have been solved after the wife’s remains have eventually been found. In some instances, the husband has even been prosecuted for his wife’s murder, even though a body has never been found. But even in these cases, true closure may not be possible until the families are able to physically bury their loved one. Some of these families continue the gruesome search for the remains of their daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, or mother even years later. JJ's debut true crime novel, Missing Wives, Missing Lives, will highlight true stories in which a wife has mysteriously vanished and is presumed dead, and the undying efforts of her family and loved ones as they search to bring her home. |
Backseat Tragedies: Hot Car Deaths
True Crime
Publication Date: April 15, 2015 PRE-ORDER NOW Picture this: A mother parks her car in the parking lot of a supermarket and hops out to grab a few items. She ll only be gone a few minutes, so she leaves her baby in the backseat and cracks the front window. The child, too small to protest, doesn t even know what is happening. In a matter of minutes, the car begins to act like an oven. The lack of ventilation inside causes the temperature to increase twenty degrees for each ten minutes she is gone, even with a window slightly open. The child s cries remain unheard and fall silent once his body temperature reaches 107°F. How many infants and young children die each year due to the negligence of their parents? The answer is too many. No child deserves to die this way. Our first reaction when we hear of another hot car death is to instinctively blame the parents. We think they must not be fit to be parents in the first place. Many are too obsessed with themselves that they forget what a selfless act it is to care for a child, while others just think of themselves as being too busy in their own lives than to worry about a child. But many incidents of hot car deaths are tragic accidents. It is difficult for many of us to comprehend, but parents can become distracted by today s on-the-go lifestyles and simply forget their child is in the backseat of the car. Backseat Tragedies: Hot Car Deaths explores the circumstances that led to the deaths of several children who died of hyperthermia, or suffering a heatstroke in a car. We explain the facts about how quickly a car can heat to deadly temperatures and what steps you can take to prevent future tragedies. We hope to raise awareness about how a simple act of carelessness can result in the death of a beautiful child. |

Social Media Monsters: Internet Killers
True Crime
Murder. Kidnapping. Cannibalism. Suicide. All these themes, among others, can be found in these true stories about various killers who have used the internet to lure out their victims. As you go through the pages of this book, you will find the most shocking lives led by men and women from around the world. Modern ways are used to lure out victims online, through websites such as Craigslist, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, various chat rooms, and others. Every person is a potential target. The authors also draws on the importance of online privacy, and how people would often share personal information online which could prove to be a dangerous and deadly act. The stories are written in a way to help you understand the killer better by exposing his or her background and the reason(s) which led him or her to commit their murders. These types of killers are identified as people who are motivated by a psychological factor: some murders are triggered by anger or jealousy, others are just a way to seek attention, and some are merely committed for the thrill of the kill. |
