Jimelle Salyers

I'm a bull-headed, thoughtful, (mostly) positive cat person who loves to play with words. I'm known locally as a danger to myself and others, although there is (mostly) NO truth to those rumors. I write because it's fun to lie without the guilt and because telling stories is in my blood. That sounds cliché, but it's true.
I have two children. One of them is serving in the Middle East this year, and the other is very much a teenaged boy, with all that that entails. I live in a big four-square house in WV, but dream of moving to the beach sometime in the next couple of years - any of them will do:). My partner loves me dearly, but sometimes gets that squinty look when he's waiting for me to finish rambling and get to the point.
I drink a little wine, have an unhealthy relationship with coffee, love costume jewelry and laugh when people grumble because I'm trying to get them to stop watching so much TV, go out, and start living:) The world really is a grand and glorious WTF BBQ of a place! My goodness, I'm just full of clichés today...it's true, though!
Recently, I've been collaborating with my genius story-teller mother (she once turned downed a MENSA membership, if I remember correctly) to publish her backlog of really cool stories and novels. Her imagination tends to highlight the spooky in everyday situations, and I may be scarred for life from reading this stuff. I'm already afraid of showering by myself! Thank the heavens for DL (Dear Lover, noted above)!

The Corny Handbook

Paranormal/ghosts
"I don't get it! What does she want?!?" She wants you to read this book!
Have you ever tried to make a romantic gesture, only to have it backfire? Have you hurt her feelings, even when you were 'just playing'? This book can help!
For any guy who wants to start a new relationship on the right foot, or improve an existing relationship, this mini-book offers the direction you need to get started TODAY. It provides the tools to share your true feelings, and explains why it's important to do so properly. You'll be surprised at just how easy it is to make her happy!
EXCERPT:
"There is a huge disconnect between what women think and what men think women think. For instance, we like some aspects of your carefully cultivated tough-guy image, but not if it gets in the way of open communication. Go be a tough guy with your friends and we'll do our best to uphold the image for you, as long as you don't pull your tough-guy stuff with us. We want the real you, in living color. Anything less and we begin to feel shut out and unimportant. We know you have feelings in there, and that's our focus. This is why corny works."
Find out: what corny is (sincerity), whether it will work for you (it will!), how to put corny into action (carefully!), and which kinds of corny to avoid.

Down In Town

Literary Fiction/Women's Fiction
Dahlia is a little rough around the edges, but she's funny, quirky, and cool as a cucumber. She's also sick of her life, sick of the people around her, and ready to be done with the whole mess. Only one place in town is a refuge for her – the abandoned railroad bridge. A short story about choices, chances, and maybe even new beginnings, if she’s brave.
Author’s note:To me, Dahlia represents the cynicism and apathy that we find in so much of American culture these days. I see it in the faces of my daughter’s friends and sometimes feel it in myself. This idea that life is difficult and trudging threatens to overtake us if we don’t fight against it, and especially if we aren’t open to hopeful new experiences. I hope you enjoy the short story, and I must say that since finishing it, Dahlia just won’t get out of my thoughts. The way she second-guesses herself tells me that she has a whole lot of growing to do, and I think she wants to do it by starring in a book! We’ll see, Dahlia. We’ll see….
