JD Hancock
John David Hancock spent his youth in various countries thanks to his status as a dependent of State Department personnel. He lived predominantly in Taiwan and Thailand and traveled extensively through Europe and Asia.
The Nuclear Zoo is Hancock’s first novel, inspired by his time in West Germany, where he served in a top-secret facility similar to the one in the story. Upon leaving the Army, he pursued a career in law enforcement, training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Hancock worked briefly at the C.I.A. headquarters building and C.I.A. offices in Northern Virginia. After that, he worked with computers at an independent government agency, defining business and user requirements for complex processing systems.
Hancock earned his black belt in Tang Soo Do and Jujitsu from Tompkins Karate Association (T.K.A.) He taught martial arts for over fifteen years in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. After three decades of government service, Hancock retired and is enjoying life in Florida. When not writing, he enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.

The Nuclear Zoo
Historical Fiction
The year is 1976, and a Cold War exists between the United States and the Soviet Union. The US maintains top-secret tactical nuclear arsenals at remote sites throughout West Germany to deter a Soviet attack. Soldiers at these sites live with the threat of invasion and are in danger of attack from highly trained, highly motivated terrorist organizations. The soldiers are young, isolated Americans in the British sector with little to pass the time except for sex, drugs, and alcohol. A chance meeting between a beautiful young German and a disgruntled soldier leads a terrorist organization to their holy grail, a nuclear bomb. Trained by the PLO and helped by their alluring seductress, the most dangerous terrorists in Europe devise a plan to steal a nuke from a top-secret storage site. Embers that could ignite WW III are smoldering in central Germany. Dan Nadler, a young private, finds himself thrust between the hardened terrorists and the possibility of a nuclear war. The green recruit, thrown into the fight of his life, needs to find out quickly if he is up to the challenge. |
