Ghosts of Presidents Past - A Reckoning
Historical Fiction
Normally, we don’t see ghosts and phantoms except on Halloween when trick-or-treaters knock on front doors. If Halloween in government existed, how might twenty-three distinguished former US presidents respond to the siren call to visit a president who ignores the Constitution and suppresses and manipulates information for political gain? What if that president disrespected his obligations to the Nation’s revered institutions and the American public? What if he was of weak moral fiber and used the office for personal gain? What if he had attained the highest office in the land through unscrupulous means? What if his ego drove him to manipulate the truth to enhance his image? What if he bullied his opponents and called them sophomoric names? What if he alienated friends and stalwart allies? What if he constantly fired cabinet members and other key personnel in his administration? In Ghosts of Presidents Past, President Daniel Hands violates the public trust. He desecrates the Oval Office so egregiously that past occupants return to confront him. What could they say that might reform him? Each ghostly visitor shares some relevant successes and regrets while in office and then departs with warnings. Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol inspired this book. Released in 2020, the novel is an allegory, a political satire, a work of historical fiction, and a statement of modern times. Newsweek published an interview with the author the day of the final debate between President Trump and Vice President Biden. The author is a Proud Supporter of NPR and PBS, Houston Public Media stations. |
Churchill and Roosevelt: The Big Sleepover at the White House
Historical Fiction
Prime Minister Winston Churchill, at great personal risk, came to visit President Franklin Roosevelt shortly after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The book portrays the events of the three weeks that Churchill occupied the White House with the Roosevelts. Focused on the aftermath of the attack, Roosevelt was in no mood to host a foreign dignitary. Fortunately, Churchill prevailed. Although one was a liberal and the other a conservative, the two men discovered they had more in common than they realized. Both were strong willed, opinionated and accustomed to getting their way. But, the fate of the world depended on their adeptness at finding common ground and making concessions. Churchill and Roosevelt shared many private moments as they forged a bond of friendship, trust, admiration, and cooperation. Certainly differences in culture, biases and wartime experience initially tested the relationship. Rather quickly, however, an unbreakable alliance was created that set a path to victory. One could submit that these three weeks were the most pivotal in WWII. Wilson sets out to humanize these two epic leaders of the twentieth century. He reveals not only their fears and tears but also their humor, passions, personalities and schemes. |
