An Unknown Soldier
Drama
Set in 1994, An Unknown Soldier, is a story about the Franklin family. Peter is a veteran of World War Two. His son, Richard, was a war resister during the turmoil and tragedy of the Vietnam War. Jennifer is Richard’s wife and Heidi is their teenage daughter who is about to begin her freshman year of college when the story begins. Peter, like many people in the WWII generation, doesn’t talk about his experiences in the war. Richard has inherited this tendency from his father and as a result they each have secrets related to the two wars. They have kept these secrets from each other, but they have also kept them from themselves. This has resulted in them being estranged from for almost a quarter of a century. An Unknown Soldier is about the suffering World War Two and Vietnam has brought to the Franklin family. Regardless of the war being fought, pain and grief are always the price families like the Franklins must pay. But even more this is a story about the redemption that love can always make possible. A Quaker Cupboard
Religion and Spirituality
A Quaker Cupboard is filled with Bible verses, quotes, friendly voices, and Quaker testimonies of SPICES (Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, Stewardship). The book opens with an introduction that explains about the Quaker concept "The Inner Light." It goes on to explain the Quaker testimonies of SPICES. A Quaker Cupboard is then broken down into six sections, each one dedicated to a particular testimony. A brief explanation of a testimony is followed up with Scripture, yearly meeting queries on the testimony, and then friendly voices on that testimony. A poem and a quote that encompasses the essence of a testimony rounds out each section. |
