Cheryl Wilder Krass

Picture
The Mommy Orphanage was created by the mother and daughter team of Cheryl Wilder Krass and Emily Krass. When Emily was five years old, she created the concept of a Mommy Orphanage and Cheryl expanded it into a book. Cheryl loved the unusual twist of the story and just knew it needed to be shared.

Emily was born in 2001 in the Guangdong Province of China in a city called Gaozhou. She spent the first 9 months of her life living in an orphanage in Gaozhou until coming home in 2002 to her new family.

After they decided to write the book, Cheryl researched traditional publishers then decided to apply the expertise from her background in printing and her skills as an author's assistant, to start her own publishing company named for her two children, Alexander and Emily (Alexemi Publishing). This allowed her to maintain total control over the project and make her daughter's book a reality.

The Mommy Orphanage is a charming children's book told through a conversation between a young girl and her adoptive mother. When the little girl poses the question, "What if instead of an orphanage where kids without families live, there was an orphanage where all the moms who want kids live?", the mother asks, "If you went to the Mommy Orphanage today, would you still pick me to be your mom?". At times funny, and at times touching, this book reinforces the bonding between a parent and an adopted child, in an unique tale told from the child's point of view.
