Kalala
Young Adult Horror
Reaching the coast of Spain as an illegal immigrant is the least of Kalala’s problems. The inflatable boat could sink, or the Coast Guard could turn her back to Kinshasa, where Claudia’s family will kill her the moment she steps onto the city. But there are worse things under the sky. The Black has followed her all the way from the Congo, its grim tentacles extending to her heart, threatening her life, and her mother’s. Two years running, for nothing. The exorcism didn’t work. This ground-breaking work reveals the darkness in human nature. It is a twisted story of occult and magic, where one’s roots must be confronted and understood. Wonder and terror walk alongside the search for love in this coming of age powerful story about origins, friendship, and the hidden power within a colonialist-erased inheritance. |
