The Cleansing: A Novel of Ancient Rome
|
Historical Fiction
The Cleansing is based on the shocking true story of a Vestal Virgin priestess in ancient Rome on trial for having sex after being blamed/scapegoated as the "reason" why Roman legions were massacred at the Battle of Cannae. If she doesn't win her case, she will be buried alive. Told from the priestess's point of view, it is the story of a woman's desperate attempt to save her own life in the face of violent misogyny.
