Why Is Sonia Unique?
Sonia is a dedicated writer with a heartfelt focus on families navigating the challenges of raising children with disabilities. With over 20 years of experience in managing behaviours associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), she brings both expertise and empathy to her work, seamlessly blending non-fiction and fiction. Her mission as an author is not primarily about achieving high sales. Instead, she aims to provide books for children with disabilities, focusing on stories that include them, which are often overlooked in the plot, as well as on the physical design of the books. All her work is large print and a minimum of 16 pt font because, as a trained teacher, she has found that children/ teens with ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other reading disorders find it easier to read with large print and plenty of white space on the page. Her skills in public speaking and radio interviews allow her to convey her ideas with clarity and warmth. Trained in Radio Journalism, Sonia has a degree in Communications and Literary Studies from the University of Western Sydney. She has also taught in ESL and has upgraded her skills in Autism awareness. |
Passionate about her faith, Sonia shares it in an inviting and approachable manner, fostering meaningful connections rather than imposing beliefs. Her personal journey—growing up with an amputee father—deeply informs her advocacy, cultivating her acceptance of individuals who are unique or different.
Sonia is committed to creating writing that resonates with both Christian and non-Christian readers, ensuring her messages are inclusive and relatable for a diverse audience. Her enthusiasm for her work reflects her genuine desire to make a positive impact!

|
Non Fiction: Biography-Parenting Autistic Children
Every parent recollects the first time they held their newborn child in their arms, the softness of their skin, their tiny hands gripping your fingers, determined never to let go. You have dreams and aspirations for your little one. However, life always turns out differently to what you might expect. Sonia D. Hebdon takes you on a wild journey as she opens the door into her world as a mum with special needs children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly known as Asperger's Syndrome and Multiple Personality Disorder, respectively. Like Alice in Wonderland, Sonia fell into a rabbit hole that opened onto a beautiful, odd world filled with hilarious and unforgettable characters that gave her a personal insight into living with children with disabilities. Warning: This book is not for the faint-hearted, and a sense of humour is a mandatory prerequisite. Sonia is a Christian mother, wife, and educated woman who believes all people with disabilities should be treated fairly and kindly. This book offers a unique and personal mother's perspective on raising children with Autism and Multiple Personalities. She provides first-hand examples of strange days and how to handle them. She also tackles the serious issues of PTSD and Suicidal ideation as she wants other mothers who are experiencing the same parenting dilemmas to know that they aren't alone. There aren't many books on Dissociative Identity Disorder written by and for the people who care for these remarkable individuals, but here is the exception and the reason this book stands apart. |
