Ron Scott

Picture
Ron Scott, EdD, JD, MA, is a retiring university professor, attorney-mediator, textbook author, thriller novelist, and 20-year military veteran. He authored a trilogy of novels, most recently, A New World (2025). The story takes place in 2029 to 2036 in Santiago, Chile, where a circle of close friends has escaped from a nuclear holocaust that destroyed the Northern Hemisphere. There, they struggle to prevent the murder of an innocent nurse. The other two interconnected novels - Privileges and Immunities, Tale of a Miliary Trial (2021) and Liberty and Justice For... (2024), are about the same group of friends in and out of the military. Ron is married to Pepi Scott from Cadiz, Spain, author of Inside Pepi's Kitchen, An Andalusian Treasure, My Favorite Spanish Recipes (2021). Ron and Pepi live in once-sleepy Cibolo, Texas, near to their two sons, Ron Jr. and Paul, daughter-in-law, Amanda, and grandchildren, Isabel, Jonas and Marlee. They love to travel across the globe and recently completed the exact same journey that the protagonists in A New World undertook to Antarctica and South America.

A New World

Picture
Thriller

In 1997, the Pittsburgh-based boutique law firm, formed by former Army officers Evie, Bryan and Roger, welcomed their charter secretary, Latisha, as a full partner following her successful graduation from Duquesne Law School and licensure two years earlier. By autumn 2029, the senior partners in the highly successful community-responsive practice were ready to retire and enjoy their golden years with their families, living near to one another in Cranberry Township, a thriving village twenty-one miles north of Pittsburgh. By that time, Evie and Roger were sixty-eight years old; Bryan, sixty-five; and Latisha, a vibrant sixty-one.  All of the married couples – Bryan and Zara, Evie and Myrna, and Roger and Astrid – were healthy and happy together. Their children –Zoey II, Molly,  and Zoey Valentine, respectively – all in their forties, were successful schoolteachers. Latisha led the practice as managing partner.

The world, as everyone knew it, was in ever-worsening conflict at that time. As a way to disengage from the turmoil and perhaps find new lives, the retiring law partners, their children, families and close friends decided to undertake what was nominally a celebration Antarctic cruise. The twenty-two-day voyage commenced in Buenos Aires and followed the eastern coast of South America to Elephant and Paradise Islands surrounding Antarctica, before steaming up the west coast through the turbulent Drake Passage to Santiago, Chile. It was a magical and life-altering experience.

While they were on that fateful trip, the world they left behind collapsed. This novel tells the story of their attempt to survive afterwards, prevent the assassination of a innocent nurse, and continue to make a difference in the world.
