Special Ed and the Bull-ies
Children's Picture Book
Join the adventures of a real-life special needs calf named Special Ed. This book starts when Ed was born and tells how he got his unique name. He meets friends - Betty, Bandit, Addi, and Harrison - who accept him for who he is and celebrate the differences that make them each special. Then there’s Special Ed's wise and loving mother, Runaway, the ranchers who take care of them - Big Jim and his wife Mikki - and their favorite veterinarian, Dr. Mark! But watch out for the bull-ies Brutus and Thor! They think everyone should be like them – which would make this world a very dull place. They make fun of Special Ed because he is different. But through it all, he remembers his momma's words, "We are each special in our own way." |
Special Ed and the Baby Sister (Book 2 in The Adventures of Special Ed)
Children's Picture Book
In this book, Special Ed and his friends - Betty, Bandit, Addi, and Harrison - anxiously await the arrival of the baby calves, including Special Ed's sister Millie. But as hard as he tries to be a good big brother, Millie is ashamed of him because he is different. Special Ed's mother, Runaway, thinks Millie is just shy – until Millie confronts Special Ed with harsh words. But the bull-ies, Brutus and Thor, put Millie’s life in danger. Special Ed, harboring no ill feelings toward Millie, just unconditional love, steps in to save her. Millie learns a powerful lesson about judging someone by their appearance and about looking for the inner beauty in others. |
Special Ed Meets Kennedy
Children's Picture Book
Special Ed and the gang are back! They meet Kennedy, who is deaf and cannot hear danger approaching, so, she must stay in a pen by herself. Special Ed knows her loneliness and sets out to be her friend. Teaching Kennedy his own brand of sign language proves to be difficult. And the bull-ies are no help as they are convinced Kennedy CAN hear, and in the end their mischief puts everyone in danger. Children with disabilities are especially susceptible to bullying- which inspired me to write this story. I wanted to show the empathic nature of Special Ed, who suffered the same loneliness as Kennedy as a young calf. I hope children will read this book and see that we each have something to offer, and even bullies can soften their hearts. |
