I was called to teach. Since 1995, I’ve been called to teach that teachers haven’t been able to teach for decades now since fascists took over so many of our schools. I wrote this memoir/exposé to take you inside our schools where learning about democracy and producing citizens became a thing of the past. You will not only learn how we can end school shootings, you will learn how our schools paved the way for an authoritarian.
This might help you understand me better. The title foreshadows my purpose. I was born Karen Graver and I wrote this book intending to be a graver danger to the fascists that run too many of our schools.
Ulysses S Grant warned: "In a Republic like ours, where the citizen is the sovereign, and the official the servant, where no power is exercised except by the will of the people, it is important that the sovereign—the people—should possess intelligence. If we are to have another contest in the near future of our national existence, I predict that the dividing line will not be Mason's and Dixon's, but between patriotism and intelligence on one side, and superstition, ambition, and ignorance on the other."
That contest is before us now because empowered bullies run corrupt, inept schools that abuse teachers and their unions, turning them into puppets, and too many Americans into forgotten men and women, not citizens. This book will teach you what to demand of our next leader.
