I grew up in Guildford surrounded by books. My father was a poet and author who inspired me to write. From my teens, I began doodling poetry and loved writing stories at school. I continued to doodle poetry throughout my life, although I always yearned to write novels but never had the time. I'm an avid bookworm, but when I’m not reading, I crochet and cross-stitch and always have several projects on the go.
In 2022, I took early retirement and finally had time to realise my dream. The Invitation began as a short story inspired by the writing prompt ‘invitation’. It won the monthly writing competition in my creative writing group. My mother and several friends asked what happened next, and so I began to write the rest. I have always been curious about stories hidden behind the veneer of normality, whether created by culture or something more sinister. That short story became the first three chapters of The Invitation, which I published on 18th March 2024. |
