Brad Hanson loves history which draws him to the stories he writes. He loves to dig deep into the stories of the Civil War and World War II. His first book, The Secret Eye was inspired by the stories told around the dinner table by his Stepfather Charlie who served as a Radar operator on the USS Lexington and the USS Yorktown. The Secret Eye is his homage to Charlie's service.

History Based Fiction
Two sons. Two nations. One war that changed them forever. Charlie Brand is barely eighteen when he joins the U.S. Navy. Assigned to radar operations aboard carriers in the Pacific, he watches war unfold in waveforms—distant threats brought close by innovation. But nothing can prepare him for what he’ll lose along the way. Half a world away, Hadaki Yamatsumi is chosen for a kamikaze mission. Raised to honor the Emperor and preserve his homeland, he carries a different kind of burden: not just to die for his country, but to believe it’s the only path left. Told through alternating perspectives, The Secret Eye examines the years from Pearl Harbor to Hiroshima during World War II through the eyes of two young men—one American, one Japanese—each facing duty, grief, and the weight of choices made in the name of their country. Inspired by a real sailor’s stories and grounded in historical truth, this is a novel about the people behind the history books—and the humanity that endures on both sides of war. |
