The author began his career as an electrical engineer in an era when engineering meant big transformers, capacitors for railway systems, and IBM mainframes running on punch cards and Fortran. The Internet and artificial intelligence existed only in science fiction—which was exactly where his imagination felt most at home.
Science fiction has been his lifelong companion. From childhood he devoured the works of the genre's pioneers—Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Ray Bradbury. These writers taught him that the best science fiction is never really about technology—it is about what it means to be human. A series of promotions carried him through R&D and up the ranks of corporate America, where he quickly discovered he had no talent whatsoever for office politics. He resigned, bought a retail business in the quiet Connecticut town of Guilford, and never looked back. Over the years he built several small businesses—desktop publishing, web design and development, videography. He has made time to become an FAA-certified drone pilot. He likes to follow the technology food chain. |
He has always enjoyed writing—technical reports, business articles, and the occasional magazine piece—but it was his girlfriend who encouraged him to try fiction. He started small: fantastical short stories about mice running amok in the house, then a novelette about sentient computers. One novel followed, then another, and then several more as his imagination proved to have considerable depth and no particular interest in staying quiet.

Their quest is to travel back to the Middle Kingdom of Egypt and solve a crime in process. A magical scarab amulet in the present day is being called back to its origins by corrupt priest magicians of the Pharaoh. The team of three magic users and one muggle are joined by an Egyptologist and a friendly witch. Travel with this motley crew as they encounter magic, crime and life in ancient Egypt. Challenges emerge as they create identities to blend into the culture of Middle Kingdom Egypt. No clothing has survived for them to clone. Money per se did not exist. Their plan is to travel to ancient Egypt with nothing more than an educated guess and their wits. But then, there are magic users and a witch. Posing as travelers from Napata, a city in lower Egypt, they travel to Ankh-Tawy, modern day Memphis. They are saved from discovery by a scribe who suspects their duplicity and befriends them.
